Tempaid Alternative: Templio vs Tempaid
How Templio compares to Tempaid, Oxford Software's recruitment payroll and invoicing system, on payroll, pricing, approvals and compliance.
The short version
Tempaid is Oxford Software's recruitment payroll and invoicing system. Oxford Software, based in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, sells it alongside Aspire (front-office recruitment) and iTiro (an online timesheet portal). The biggest difference is scope: Tempaid runs payroll and Templio does not. Templio covers the timesheet-to-invoice side, with client approval, self-billing and compliance tracking built in, and leaves pay runs to your payroll bureau or payroll software. Tempaid facts below come from Oxford Software's own pages, checked on 28 September 2026. Anything those pages don't mention is marked "not stated" rather than guessed.

Pricing
Templio: £49/month, including your first 5 active contractors. Contractors above that are billed on graduated per-contractor bands, with the rate dropping as you grow. Monthly billing, no annual contract, and no VAT is charged. An optional custom domain is £15/month. 14-day free trial, no card required. See pricing for the full breakdown and calculator.
Tempaid: no price is published. The Tempaid page says "all updates for future changes are included with your annual licence" and offers "Arrange Demo" as the next step, so expect to get a quote through Oxford Software's sales team. Source: oxfordsoftware.co.uk/tempaid/, fetched 28 September 2026.
Feature comparison
What Templio ships today: magic-link timesheet submission for contractors (no app to install), one-tap client approval by email with no login required, Xero sync with invoices sent as drafts, HMRC self-billing under VAT Notice 700/62, credit notes and consolidated invoicing, a compliance document vault with expiry alerts, IR35 status tracking, AWR 12-week tracking, an overtime engine covering daily/weekly/weekend rates and GOV.UK bank holidays, and a white-label custom domain. Templio does not run payroll.
What Oxford Software states on its Tempaid page: payroll "supporting PAYE, Limited Company, Self Employed, Construction and Nursing"; automatic holiday pay accrual with annual leave liability reports; automatic calculation of Student Loan Repayments and statutory pay (SSP, SMP, SPP, SAP, ShPP and SPBP); single point data entry, where timesheet data entered manually or imported produces both temps' pay and client invoices; invoicing with optional emailing and timesheet images; a sales ledger with "full credit control and debtor management"; reports to Word, PDF, Excel and email; an optional Task Controller for automatic processing; and integration with Aspire, iTiro and third-party software. Payslips, P60s and P45s can optionally be delivered online through iTiro MyPay.
Client approval is handled by iTiro, not Tempaid. The iTiro page describes a mobile app or website where clients get "quick and easy authorisation (or dispute) of hours or days worked", with timesheets then downloaded into Aspire or Tempaid. Neither page describes approving from an email link without logging in.
The Tempaid page doesn't mention Xero, self-billing, AWR or IR35. Treat those as "not stated", not "absent", and check directly with Oxford Software if any of them matters to your decision.
Who should choose Tempaid
If you want payroll and invoicing in one system, Tempaid does something Templio doesn't: it runs the pay itself, for PAYE, limited company, self-employed, construction and nursing workers, with statutory payments and holiday pay calculated for you. That matters most to an agency that runs its own payroll in-house rather than through a bureau. If you already use Aspire or iTiro, Tempaid also fits into the same Oxford Software family. We'd rather you make that call with accurate information than a sales pitch, which is why the facts above are quoted from the pages we checked, with the date we checked them.
Who should choose Templio
If your payroll is already handled by a bureau or payroll software and what you need is the timesheet-to-invoice side, Templio covers it in one product: approval from an email link with no client login, self-billing, AWR and IR35 tracking, and Xero sync. It publishes what it costs and lets you try it for 14 days with no card. See pricing or read our guides on the compliance side of the job.
Switching from Tempaid to Templio
Templio's own sign-up wizard takes a few minutes: name your workspace, choose its address, set your invoicing details, then bring across your active contracts. You can import contractors, clients and placements from a CSV, and exports from Bullhorn, InTime, JobAdder and Vincere are recognised directly. We don't have specifics on what Tempaid exports, so budget time to check before a migration. Because Templio doesn't run payroll, you'd also need a payroll bureau or payroll software in place before moving pay away from Tempaid.
